This Learning Lab series is for business owners and their teams that have already identified a gap in their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to Finance, and are looking for support building a digital strategy to support that transformation. This 2 part series hones in between ideation and implementation, focusing on building the digital strategy plan for finance, understanding what’s possible and de-risking your investment through good strategy development.

Ultimate Goal: To accelerate digital adoption for women owned businesses, and improve the success rate of SMEs as they build digital strategies around their transformation projects. Where possible, we will raise awareness for AI opportunities within your business.

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions of our expert presenter and work on your strategy within these learning lab sessions!

Learning Lab Session #1: November 12, 2024, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm MST

Learning Outcomes:

  • Work together to identify the vision for your digital transformation idea

  • Identify and validate "use cases", including how we can prioritize them from most valuable to least valuable

  • Categorize the opportunity into "moonshots vs. quick wins" that can propel the organization forward

  • Review examples of what other companies have done to drive digital change

Learning Lab Session #2: November 14, 2024, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm MST

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify an action plan for the business, to help plan for how we can make your vision a reality.

  • The key to digital transformation comes down to managing risk, and we’ll review opportunities to de risk your DT Project from the outset.

  • Lastly we’ll discuss the components of a solid development brief, as you begin to outline what specifically needs to be built (and by who). This includes a summary of a project timeline, deliverables and accountability (RACI).

I am a business and technology leader with over 15 years of technology, marketing and business transformation experience. I have been a leader in the construction and real estate(proptech) space for the last few years, with successful startups including cleanNow(acquired 2019) and Apicem. Prior to that, I spent four years at Makespace Group, one of the fastest-growing multi-disciplinary agencies in Alberta, as a Co-Founder and Managing Partner working on clients including ATB Financial, BMO Financial, 1M/Factory, SweetLegs, Alquinn Homes, and many more.

Prior to joining Makespace, I spent a decade in agencies working on national accounts including Bell Canada, P&G Laundry Care, Sobey’s, Blackberry, Silk and Home Depot. I am currently consulting with various clients in several sectors including: retail, technology, marketing/advertising, governance and business strategy. I have a track record of delivering improved business results, building stronger and scalable business and technology operations, and increasing the speed of value delivery.

I love solving problems and making things work better and I use technology and automation in every part of my life. I know how to build teams and clear the path for teams to do great things. Melissa Martin founded Wean Green in 2009 when she was on maternity leave from teaching first grade in Canada. She saw a market need for an eco-friendly storage option to store her homemade baby food and toddler snacks for her 2 daughters. To get started, Melissa grabbed her Mr.Sketch markers and created a business plan centered around infinitely recyclable glass containers that has survived a decade's worth of twists and turns. Instead of cooking up her business strategy in her kitchen she was executing an international brand that manufactures in South Korea and is distributed on most continents. She exited the company in 2024.
